Deadly Hunta Bio/Text:
Deadly Hunta started off his career chatting on the Sound Systems African Roots and SkyJuice in the early Nineties, and in 1994 went to Jamaica where he got the opportunity to sing in Bobby Digital's studio. From that moment he realised his connection with music and that it could become a career for him.
Over the next couple of years Hunta kept himself busy doing plenty of shows supporting artists such as Glamour Kid, Silvier Taylor, Daddy Freddy and many more. Then in 1996 he got his first record deal with MCA where he gained much experience touring around the UK. He also supported Buju Banton on his 1996 'til Shiloh' tour.
Hunta then found himself a deal with an Independent record company called Jus Listen, who released his first release C.ID. They also sent him back to Jamaica for 4 months to work with Bobby Digital. Soon after, Jus Listen went bankrupt so Deadly decided to form his own group, Coalition, which was a mixture of hip hop and ragga. They managed to release a 6 track E.P, and on the strength of that Hunta also had a track released in 2002 on Aphrodites Aftershock album on the V2 record label, which was also released on a 12 inch. Coalition went on to appear on the John Peel show, and also travelled to Columbus, Ohio where they supported the Super Naturals and Mad Professor. The Coalition came to an end soon after this, but Deadly didn’t.
He went on to work with DJ Skitz from Radio 1 Extra and through him appeared on a Mixologist cd released in 2003. After that he released his own 12 inch on his label Much Love records in August 2003.
Supporting groups such as the Wu Tang Crew, Ice T, FYA girls and many more it is easy to see Deadly's contribution to music over the next few years. He has also appeared at WOMAD for the past 3 years. Hunta featured on a video called ‘Heat’ with Zane which is being played on B4U and Channel U. He’s also released his new single Mamma Mia in November 2004 with both tracks receiving much airplay on Radio 1’s show hosted by Bobby Friction and Nihal. Mamma Mia has also been remixed by Photek (Drum and Bass) to be released with the original in October 2005. Hunta also has a track called ‘Put down the gun’ released on a Jamdown records E.P from JA to UK featuring Bounty Killer, Elephant man, Buju Banton, Capleton, Galaxy P, FYA, Sun Cycle and many more. Recently Deadly Hunta has recorded a track with Mikey General and is now focusing on the completion of his debut album.
